Lifting Inspection, Rigging Inspection & Sling Inspection

Sling Inspection: Inspection of Alloy Steel Chain Slings, Wire Rope Slings, Nylon/Polyester Slings and Metal Mesh Slings for overhead lifting, per OSHA 1910.184 standard, ASME B30.9 standard and MIOSHA 408.14901-14965 standard. The NIS inspection process includes the following steps:

1. Physical characteristics, such as serial number, size, type and length of sling are recorded on an inspection report.
2. Slings are visually inspected for elongation, wear, deformation, and missing capacity markings.
3. Alloy steel chain slings are load tested to twice their working load limit, as per the certification criteria for OSHA Sling Inspections.
4. Each passing sling will be tagged with a color coded inspection tag, demonstrating that it has been checked.
5. Slings which do not pass inspection will be tagged with a caution tag as well as a red paint mark.
6. Lastly, a computer generated report will be provided on a spreadsheet with a certificate governing regulatory standards for all passing items.

Note: Alloy Steel Chain Slings do not have to be load tested during the annual inspection.  However, the end user must be able to produce a certification of load test from the chain manufacture or equivalent entity.  NIS’s has incorporated a load test as part of the inspection process to ensure that each alloy steel chain sling in use is certified.
